Last Swell of the Decade
It was the weekend before Christmas. Excitement filled the cool air as a low pressure system strengthened in the gulf.
4AM, coffee brewed and buoys checked, 10 ft @ 9 seconds. Sent the text out to the crew and headed west. At first light it was huge, hard offshore, and a stiff current.
Waves in the overhead to double overhead range with even bigger sets breaking almost a 1/2 mile offshore. It was all over the place, but the boys were on it. As the day went on and the tide filled in, the waves started to shape up and become one of the best swells of the year.
